Beverly Doyle Leadership Award

Dan Dalton, administrator with Bartlesville Ambulance Service, received the Beverly Doyle Leadership Award on July 13 at the Annual Oklahoma Emergency Medical Technician Association Medical Conference in Tulsa.Dalton has worked in EMS for more than 36 years. The award recognizes his leadership skills and contribution to the EMS field.“It is a great honor to be selected from all the dedicated emergency medical services personnel throughout the state of Oklahoma,” Dalton said.The OEMTA board of directors annually reviews nominations provided by the public and votes on winners, though this award is not given every year. The honor is given to one individual in emergency medical services in the state.Medics, administrators, dispatchers, ambulance services and EMS educators from across Oklahoma attended the conference during which Dalton was presented with a unique trophy..

A call had gone out about a woman who thought she was having a heart attack. After racing across town, the paramedics pulled up at a senior facility. They loaded the woman into an ambulance, calmly talking with her about her symptoms. After administering medication and filling out paperwork, they drove her back to the hospital, soothingly talking with her the whole time and even getting her to laugh once.The paramedics try to keep up a constant flow of conversation to keep people calm, one said.No sooner had the woman arrived at the hospital than a call went out about a man who was having trouble after a surgery.
